If you're looking for the ultimate in features and high-speed wireless broadband content, look no further than the feature-packed LG VX9800m, also known as The V. Packed to the gills with a hidden QWERTY keypad, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a miniSD memory card slot, stereo speakers, an MP3 player, and much more, the VX9800m is a mobile powerhouse. And if that's not enough, the phone also supports Verizon's exciting V Cast service, which allows you to download or stream full motion video and 3D games, all on your handset. The other big news is that the VX9800m supports Verizon Wireless' music service, which lets you discover and jam out to tunes wherever you roam.
Design. The VX9800m's face features a large, 65,000-color screen with 128 x 160 pixel resolution and a standard dialpad with a five-way control button. Flip open the horizontal clamshell, though, and you are presented with a breathtaking, 320 x 256, 262,000-color landscape display and a full QWERTY keyboard. Dialing function buttons are also duplicated on the internal touchpad. Meanwhile, a pair of stereo speakers reside on either side of the display. Although the device comes with 128 MB of built-in memory, a miniSD card slot is provided on the side of the device for additional memory expansion. Plus, there's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets. The rear of the device houses the 1.3 megapixel camera, while an internal antenna keeps the VX9800m sleek and compact. A USB data port is also provided.
Calling Features. The VX9800m's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. The phone comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. The phone lets you match pictures with callers to identify them, and the VX9800m's voice recognition software supports voice commands from any user, not just a pre-programmed user's voice. What's more, many of the phone's functions can be controlled by the sound of your voice, thanks to advanced voice recognition technology. Text-to-speech technology enables the VX9800m to read emails and text messages to you, if you so desire. A powerful speakerphone unit means you can easily talk handsfree, while Bluetooth allows you to use your favorite wireless headset. Lastly, the VX9800m's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.
Messaging, Internet, and Tools. With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the VX9800m is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest Accuweather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available. V Cast also serves as a portal for enhanced 3D games.
Verizon's music service is another EV-DO-powered service that makes the VX9800m all the more desirable. With V Cast Music, your phone is a music player, letting you jam out wherever you are. It's also a music store, and you can download songs instantly to your phone wirelessly. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat. You can also load up your own songs from your personal music collection and listen to them on the VX9800's built-in music player.
The VX9800m has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too, with support for sending and receiving text, picture and video messages. There's also a complete email client on the device for POP- and IMAP-based accounts. Of course, the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type your messages.
Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the VX9800m. Verizon's Mobile Web package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings and find directions to the theater. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with the VX9800m. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.
The VX9800m ships with a number of handy tools including a calendar and a voice memo application. An alarm clock and calculator are also included. Use the VX9800m's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth headset accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. Another powerful tool, VZ Navigator provides heads-up, voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions with auto-rerouting if you miss a turn. This subscription-based GPS navigation service makes it a snap to get where you need to go.
Imaging and Entertainment. While the VX9800m is a great platform for watching V Cast video content, it can also capture video that can be shared with your friends and associates via video messaging. The video unit records in MPEG4 format and can capture clips up to 15 seconds in length. Of course, you can also use the camera to capture still pictures, too. In addition to megapixel resolution (1280 x 960), the camera features an LED flash, macro and night modes, a self-timer, and brightness and white balance controls. There's even an integrated business card scanning function.
The VX9800m supports V Cast 3D games, as well as other 2D-based games, which are available from Verizon's Get It Now service. You can also customize the phone's wallpapers and screensavers to give your phone a look that suits your style.
Vital Statistics. The LG VX9800m weighs 5.19 ounces and measures 4.57 x 1.97 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 250 minutes of digital talk time, and up to 199 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 850/CDMA 1900 frequencies.
