Review of Deni 5530 Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker:
I'm enjoying a bowl of perfect soft-serve right now. And this is the first time I've used the machine. I guess the low ratings are from people who are just clueless. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! Make sure you keep the freezing canister in your deep freeze for 24 hours! Make sure your ice cream mix is fully chilled (overnight in the fridge)! DUH! THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT.
Now, if this sounds too complicated for you, just go to Dairy Queen, but this softserve (the booklet's plain vanilla recipe) is as smooth and tasty as anything I've ever bought. And I know exactly what's in it! I actually substituted Splenda for the sugar to reduce the carbs and still got unbeatable results.

Sorry, we've tried., July 5, 2007

We've tried to get this thing to make some decent soft-serve, but all we've accomplished so far is something slightly better than soup. I'll admit the stuff tastes good, but we just can't get it to freeze enough, certainly not for a cone. The bowl stays in the freezer untilthe last minutes, but still no joy. Others we know have had success, and that's why the 2 stars. Maybe it's just us, but I just can't recommend it.

VERY SOFT SERVE, July 3, 2007
By Michael R. Myslinski "mike" (granby, ma.) - See all my reviews
I am very disappointed with the Deni 5530 Automatic Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker. I followed the directions correctly the three times I made the ice cream but it never comes out of the machine cold enough, the mixture must be placed in a container and frozen before using. It tastes great but it's not the soft serve we expected.

I got it to work after 2 tries, June 25, 2007
By Filly (Levittown, PA USA) - See all my reviews
OK, I messed up on my first two tries but after that it worked. Many people who rated this product said the ice cream was a "melted milkshake". Yes, that is what happened at first but if you make sure the canister is frozen (i left it in the freezer for a few days) then made the ice cream mixture and left it in the fridge overnight, then after pouring the mixture in the canister, really let that machine mix it for a while, then it firms up (you can tell when it thickens by watching it through the clear-view lid) then it worked great, though it took time.
if the ice cream mixture were not whipped long enough in the machine, or if the mixture was at room temperature, or if the canister was left out for a while then that is when the machine will not do its job.

Horrible product! Kids were so disappointed., June 5, 2007
By Floria (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
The only redeeming aspect of this ridiculous machine is that I now know that I'm not crazy because everyone seems to be saying the same thing about it: it just doesn't work!! I gave it a fair shake (no pun intended) for two days in a row. The first night, we apparently attached the dispenser handle incorrectly, so it was dripping all over the place and made the most ungodly mess in our kitchen such as we have never witnessed in this life. It was like The Sorcerer's Apprentice only with heavy cream instead of water. Despite all that, we tried again tonight (though I could kick myself for wasting even more time on it), and everything seemed to be working just as described, except, as everyone says here, the mixture never turned into ice cream. We turned it on at 9:15. It is now 11:45, still running, and still has the consistency of a melted milkshake just as it was when we first put it in an hour and a half ago. It also makes a whole lot of noise and commotion for something that doesn't
deliver on its promise. This gadget is NOT worth the money, and the ingredients themselves are too expensive to spend on something this inferior. I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying this product (DON'T!). I'm packing it up and returning it tomorrow. Wish they could reimburse for shipping.
