Description
As home wireless networking continues to evolve, the need for increasingly faster speeds and greater range becomes more attractive. New applications like video-streaming, while not possible with 802.11b, are attainable at higher speeds, prompting users to seek the most powerful available solution for their networking needs. NETGEAR's WG111T 108 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter enables this. At 108 Mbps, it is up to 10x faster than 802.11b, and has 4x the range on 802.11b. The USB 2.0 interface allows the full throughput of 108 Mbps to be available, simply by plugging this into the external USB slot of your desktop or notebook PC. Keep your network private with WEP encryption, upgradeable to even more secure WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Setup is now made quick and easy with our Smart Wizard install assistant. The WG111T has a compact pocket-sized casing and with the included 5 ft. USB cable, it can easily be placed anywhere near your computer for optimal signal strength for best
performance.

Works for 10 days then quits, May 7, 2006

My experience, with several repetitions: The adapter, continuously plugged in, continuously on, works for about 10 days, then stops working and drops the connection. It won't restart. The only way to recover is to unplug it, plug in your spare (you do have a spare, of course), and let the Netgear WG111T cool off for a couple of days. Then you plug it in again, and it works for about 10 days...

Its great, but has a number of problems, February 15, 2005

Although, this is a great deal: easy to setup, easy to install, easy to reset, etc., it does contain many problems.
One problem is that it heats up to quickly, mainly because its through USB, and USB travels really quick, especially if you are running a USB 2.0 port instead of 1.1 port.
Another main problem is that it doesn't function well unless you have a netgear router. I got a new router when I renewed my Verizon contract, and decided to get this so I could network my two comptuers without having to open it up. Often times it says that network is unavailable, even though the adapter is receiving fine. When I bought a Netgear router, it worked flawlessly, but if you don't have a netgear router, its a hassle.
The size is overall good, and you can either plug it in directly to the USB, or have a cord so that you can wrap it around or hang it on the side of your computer. Netgear has great customer support, even though their lines are often full the wait time is long, they are always there.
I've only had one for 2 months, but so far, it really hasn't given me any problems. Just make sure when your not using it, to unplug it, or it will heat up and wear quicker.

Absolutely horrendous product!, December 26, 2005
By Toord "skepticalbeliever" (Gainesville, FL) - See all my reviews
Let me tell you, this Netgear USB wireless adapter has to be one of the worst computer products I've ever bought. First, unless you're right on top of the wireless access point, you won't get a decent signal strength. The connection client that comes with this device is mediocre at best: it won't even allow you to connect to an access point with its SSID turned off. Then if you want Windows to handle the connections for you, the connection client (unless you un-install it) will keep trying to take over the connection and thus colliding with Windows' network stacks and services. Then after finally doing some technical Judo you get it to work, it drops the connection every so often so you need to wait for it to get another address from the router. I tried many things until I just put it in its box and returned it. I then got a Linksys (equivalent product) instead, and it worked like a charm!
I've had two very bad expereinces with Netgear and I'm sure I won't have any more--if you get my wind.
